SAMARTH

SAMARTH AT A GLANCE
In India, since independence lot of development efforts have been devoted to bring about improvement in “quality of life”. Inspite of gigantic inputs, a very large proportion of population still faces hardships in meeting basic necessities. Divide among the rich and the poor as well as among rural and urban is widening. Little understanding of core issues, irrational thinking and decision-making process, pervasive illiteracy, obsolete customs, absence of responsive & responsible leadership is few major impediments, prevented synergy in development interventions. Women especially those belong to tribal, dalit, differently able, under difficult conditions and economically backward community, are most affected.

The distressful state of living women has provided purpose to a group of young women activists and social entrepreneurs, to take focused and gainful actions to promote and recharge womanhood, to tackle their limiting hurdles with positive attitude, dignity and purpose. Thus, Samarth came up as a non-profit civil society organization in state of Madhya Pradesh, one of six Indian states with very poor HDI and GDI, as its area of intervention.
